Salary: From £36,000, depending on experience

Your role and responsibilities

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join Southfields Veterinary Specialists as our Senior Night Nurse.

As a Senior Nurse, you will lead by example, guiding, supporting, and motivating a team of highly skilled Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants. Using your exceptional organisational, delegation, communication and clinical skills, you will facilitate the delivery of inpatient and emergency care to patients from all disciplines, working closely with specialists, residents, interns, RVNs, SVNs and PCAs in our busy and rapidly growing hospital.

You will have experience of communicating with individuals at all levels and will feel confident participating in discussions with consultants to develop inpatient care plans for our large and varied caseload.

You will work alongside the Head of Nursing Services to develop working processes and grow your nursing team in our 40,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art facility.

Your attendance at senior meetings will allow you to use your experience to contribute ideas and solutions to the continued progression and development of the practice and clinical team.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that will require an assertive and proactive leader with a positive approach to patient management.

Experience in a referral setting would be advantageous however full training will be provided.

Due to the continued expansion at Southfields, you will work as a part of the Senior Nursing Team developing procedures and ways of working for the hospital. Joining us will allow you to build on your existing leadership skills in a supported environment. With the assistance of the Head of Nursing Services, you will influence, guide, and develop the out of hours nursing team and support staff.

  • You will be the first port of call for departmental line management for the nursing and support team.
  • You will liaise with the Head of Nursing Services to identify recruitment needs and take an active role in the recruitment selection process.
  • You will have access to, and be actively encouraged to participate in, our extensive range of CPD, including webinars, journal clubs, modular training sessions and the Linnaeus Referral Nursing Professional Development (RNPD) Programmes. You are encouraged to network with fellow Senior Nurses across the Linnaeus Group to share ideas and actions to support best practice.
  • You will be provided with a generous CPD package, including funding and paid CPD days to further your knowledge and experience and support the development of your career.

What kind of person you need to be

  • You will need to be a highly motivated self-starter able to demonstrate leadership qualities to co-ordinate, support and motivate our busy night team by prioritising, problem-solving and delegating effectively.
  • You will have experience of, and a passion for, mentoring and training colleagues and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills to assist in managing conflicting priorities.
  • As a member of our senior nursing team, your desire to provide the best clinical service to our patients will allow you to demonstrate a proactive approach to developing and shaping a growing service.

Specific experiences / qualifications / status / citizenship requirements
You must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) registration
  • Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Leadership/training experience
  • Maintain a professional and caring approach in all aspects of your work

Hours - 7.45pm-7.45am as part of a 5 on, 10 off rota.

You will participate in our Night RVN on-call rota.
