Somerset animal hospital Cave Veterinary Specialists has promoted Will McFadzean to a newly-created role of head of specialist services.

The role will see Will lead the busy anaesthesia and imaging departments at the Linnaeus-owned practice, which is based in West Buckland, near Wellington.

It involves the co-ordination and management of the anaesthesia and imaging departments, and the daily organisation of patient flow through the hospital.

Will, who is a RCVS and EBVS specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, says he’s excited by the leadership opportunity.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been handed the responsibility to lead the departments and ensure we continue to deliver the finest care and treatment at Cave.

“We are very lucky to have a talented team of specialist anaesthetists here working alongside a highly-experienced imaging department which includes three ultrasonographers and a radiographer.

“My main objectives in the new role are establishing a closer working relationship between the specialist services and introducing integration across all imaging modalities to form one harmonious imaging team.

“I’ll also be responsible for the promotion of the services, both internally and externally, to highlight the clinical skills we have.”

Cave offers advanced monitoring for critical patients with modern anaesthetic machines and ventilators as well as nerve stimulator and ultrasound-guided local anaesthetic blocks for orthopaedic, soft tissue and neuro surgery.

It also offers individualised post-operative pain assessment and analgesic planning as well as anaesthesia for interventional cardiology.

Cave’s hospital director Sarah Hicks said: “Will has made a terrific contribution since joining us in 2017 and thoroughly deserves this important promotion to become our head of specialist services.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him thrive and succeed in his new post.”

Cave offers comprehensive, specialist-led services in anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedic surgery, pain management and rehabilitation and soft tissue surgery.
