The head of anaesthesia at a leading veterinary hospital in the South West has qualified as a European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.

Tristan Merlin, from Linnaeus-owned Eastcott Veterinary Referrals in Swindon, has achieved specialist status following the completion of his training programme, which he began at the Royal Veterinary College in 2015.

The knowledge and experience that he has gained in his path to achieve specialist status ensures Tristan practices anaesthesiology with the most up-to-date evidence and at an extremely high standard.

Tristan said: “I am very excited to have completed my training and to be awarded with this specialist status.

“It’s been a very rewarding experience and I look forward to lending my expertise and helping more animals on their road to recovery.”

Duncan Barnes, clinical director at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, added: “We are extremely proud of Tristan and extend our heartfelt congratulations to him for all the hard work and dedication that has gone into achieving specialist status.

“We are very proud to have him as part of our team and appreciate the level of skill and knowledge he continues to bring to the table.

“Modern surgical and diagnostic techniques have made the role of specialist veterinary anaesthetists more important than ever today. Tristan and our team of veterinary anaesthetists bring an invaluable set of technical and non-technical skills that allow us to deliver the highest standards of anaesthesia, peri- and postoperative pain management and overall patient care.”
