One of the UK’s leading small animal hospitals has added another specialist to its expert internal medicine team.

Wear Referrals, in Bradbury, Country Durham, now has four specialists delivering industry-leading treatment after Chiara Giannasi recently passed exams to become an EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Chiara, who joined the Linnaeus-owned practice in 2018, works alongside an incredibly experienced internal medicine team at Wear which includes fellow specialists, clinical director Ben Harris, Scott Kilpatrick and Helen Titmarsh.

She said: “I have learned so much during my 10 years of additional study and I’m really excited by the opportunity to be able to make even more of a contribution to the care we offer our patients and clients.”

Clinical director Ben said: “We are all delighted to see Chiara recognised as an EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine, which is a deserved reward for all her hard work and studying over the past years.

“It means we’re able to offer even more expertise and excellence in the internal medicine team and the multidisciplinary care of our patients.”

Chiara graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and completed a rotating internship in Glasgow, before becoming a senior emergency veterinarian.

She completed her specialist training in internal medicine through a three-year internal medicine residency programme at Dick White Referrals, Cambridgeshire, which was recently acquired by Linnaeus.

Following her residency, she worked for more than two years at another fellow Linnaeus practice, Cave Veterinary Specialists, Somerset, as a clinician in internal medicine, before swapping the south of England for north and the team at Wear.

Chiara’s particular interests include pancreatitis and all aspects of emergency medicine. She has published journal articles and lectured nationally and internationally on various aspects of internal medicine.

Wear specialises in providing expert multidisciplinary care, including oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue, internal medicine, cardiology, intensive care and diagnostic imaging.
