Surgery Resident Joins Elite Team At World-class Willows

Our West Midlands small animal hospital, Willows, has added to its expert team with the appointment of a new resident in small animal surgery.
Kine Elmenhorst, BVMedSci BVM BVS PGCert Veterinary Medicine and Surgery MRCVS, has become part of the specialist-led orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery teams at Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service in Solihull, West Midlands, which is part of Linnaeus.
Kine, who graduated from the University of Nottingham Veterinary School in 2015, has joined Willows after completing a surgical internship at Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey.
Chris Shales, head of soft tissue surgery at Willows, which is part of the UK-wide group Linnaeus, said: “We’re delighted Kine has joined our surgery team and we look forward to her making a great contribution to the service.
“It will be a busy and varied role, as Willows is one of Europe’s leading specialist-led small animal surgery referral centres, with our soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic departments treating more than 2,000 new cases per year.
“Within soft tissue surgery we deal with a wide variety of cases ranging from ear, nose and throat, urogenital, gastrointestinal, vascular, cardiothoracic, wound management and reconstruction, endocrine surgery and hernia or rupture surgery.
“The team here also has a particular interest and expertise in managing cancer, Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Disease (BOAS) and portosystemic shunts.
“The orthopaedic team deal with a full range of patients with musculoskeletal problems, including management of trauma, joint diseases, and conditions affecting muscles, tendons and ligaments. They also manage complex spinal surgical cases in conjunction with our neurology department.”
Kine is excited by her new role at Willows, saying: “I’m thrilled to have joined Willows and to have become part of such a renowned small animal surgery team.
“It is a fabulous opportunity for me and it’s a real privilege to work with such a talented team and have the support and guidance of the rest of the multidisciplinary expertise on offer here at Willows.”
