One of the UK’s leading small animal hospitals has added more depth and breadth to its expert team with the arrival of two new recruits.

North Downs Specialist Referrals (NDSR), in Bletchingley, Surrey, which is part of Linnaeus, has recently welcomed ophthalmologist Andra Enache and anaesthetist Roger Medina Serra.

Hospital director Terry Emmerson says their arrivals illustrate NDSR’s determination to deliver the best possible care to its patients.

He said; “Our aim at North Downs is to provide first-class care to our patients and to give an excellent service to their owners and our referring vets.

“It would not be possible to provide such a service without a team of people who are committed to excellence and that’s why I am pleased to welcome Andra and Roger.”

Andra (pictured), who graduated with a bachelor and master’s degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining North Downs, which is renowned as a centre of excellence not just in the UK but throughout Europe.

“I’m excited to have the chance to work in a multi-disciplinary setting alongside so many experienced and talented specialists.”

Andra moved to the UK in 2013 and has just completed a three-year ophthalmology residency at the Royal Veterinary College, where she was awarded the BSAVA post-graduate certificate in small animal ophthalmology with distinction in 2019 and a master of veterinary medicine with distinction in July 2020.

She is now waiting to sit her European Specialist board examination.

Roger is also joining from the Royal Veterinary College where he undertook his residency in anaesthesia and analgesia.

He graduated from the University of Murcia, in Spain, in 2014 and has since completed two anaesthesia internships - one at his alma mater, the other at the University of Liverpool.

Roger said: “I’m thrilled to be working at such a respected veterinary centre as NDSR, as it gives me a wonderful opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge yet further and make a real contribution to animal care and welfare.

“I’m interested in all aspects of anaesthesia and analgesia and I’m keen to focus on pain management, local anaesthesia techniques, and the management of critical patients.”

NDSR offers specialist-led services in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and spinal surgery.
