Applications from highly motivated and ambitious colleagues are invited to undertake a Discipline Specific Internship in Small Animal Internal Medicine, commencing August 2026.
Southfields Veterinary Specialists Internal Medicine team, comprising four Medicine Specialists, a team of dedicated Medicine Nurses including one VTS, provides a comprehensive Internal Medicine service to referral patients from across the UK. Southfields Veterinary Specialists is a truly multi-disciplinary centre with Specialists across Soft Tissue Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging.
Facilities at Southfields Veterinary Specialists are second to none, including:
· Extensive imaging facilities including 1.5T MRI, 64 slice Siemens CT, Ultrasound, Digital X-ray and Fluoroscopy.
· A broad range of endoscopic equipment allowing flexible video GI endoscopy, video bronchoscopy, flexible video cystoscopy, rigid cystoscopy, rhinoscopy.
· In-house laboratory.
· True multi-disciplinary support for challenging cases.
· Access to radiation oncology.
The Internal Medicine team have broad clinical experience with interests in Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Haematology and Immune Mediated Diseases.
This full-time post will run from August 2026 (precise date to be confirmed). There is a shared out of hours rota with Specialist supervision. The Intern will be involved in twice daily service rounds, clinical investigations and management of patients presenting to the internal medicine service and active participation in journal and book clubs and seminars.
You must be able to work as a team as well as independently supporting our clients, patients and clinical teams in our busy practice. This is a rewarding and challenging role that will require teamwork and dedication.
Key roles include:
- Daily care of patients, and perform consultations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment under the supervision of ECVIM-CA diplomates.
- To participate in out of hours work covering the care of small animal medicine and oncology in-patients and receiving emergencies.
- Excellent communication with referring veterinary surgeons and clients.
- Participate in and present at journal clubs, rounds, and seminars

- Ability to work under the guidance of the supervisor and other senior staff

Specific experiences / qualifications / status / citizenship requirements
Applicants should be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to practice in the United Kingdom and should have graduated from an institution that has been approved by the European Association of Veterinary Education Establishments (EAVEE). A minimum of one year in primary care practice is mandatory and completion of a rotating internship or equivalent desirable. A thorough knowledge of both conversational and medical English is essential.

- Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
- Provide evidence of your Right to Work in the UK
- Have RCVS membership
- Maintain a professional and caring approach in all aspects of your work
