Job Title: Receptionist
Location: Garston Veterinary Group, Trowbridge (travel to Frome, Melksham, Warminster & Westbury is required)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week across four days
Shift patterns are variable, but your rota will always be published two months in advance to support a healthy work–life balance.
Typical shifts include:
- 7:30am – 6:00pm
- 8:00am – 6:30pm
- 8:30am – 7:00pm
Weekend cover is shared, with 1 in 4 Saturdays required (either 8:00 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 12:00 pm).

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and caring receptionist to join our friendly, forward‑thinking veterinary group. In this role, you’ll be the welcoming face of the practice, greeting clients and their pets with warmth, professionalism, and reassurance, while providing valuable support to our dedicated veterinary team.
This is a busy and varied position, so while previous experience would be an advantage, it isn’t essential. What matters most is your positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and willingness to learn.
Roles and responsibilities
In this varied and rewarding role, you will be responsible for:
- Welcoming clients and their pets in a warm, professional, and reassuring manner
- Managing the diary, including booking appointments and scheduling surgical procedures
- Answering a wide range of client queries via email and telephone
- Proactively communicating with clients and colleagues to help the day run smoothly
- Completing general administration tasks
- Processing prescription requests accurately and efficiently
- Taking payments and handling transactions confidently
- Promoting practice offers and services where appropriate
- Ensuring the reception area is clean, organised, and well‑stocked
