Job Title: Veterinary Surgeon

Salary: Up to £60,000

Location: Garston vets, Somerset and Wiltshire

Job Type: Permanent

Hours:Full time, or part time. Our full time vets work 40 hours per week over 4 days, 1 in 6 weekends (shift based, not full weekend) and 1 weeknight in every 2 weeks; but we are also keen to talk to any candidates interested in different work patterns. This might include no OOH work, weekends only, or school hours- we strive to be flexible.

Garston Vets is based on the Somerset and Wiltshire border within easy reach of the vibrant and historic cities of Bath, Bristol, and Salisbury. The beautiful south coast is an hour away and lovers of the outdoors can find plenty to do in the nearby Mendip Hills and Salisbury Plain. Frome itself is regularly featured as one of the most desirable small towns in the UK.

We are looking for a Small Animal Vet to join our large first opinion practice. Applicants must be confident with consulting, working within the theatre and hospital environment, enjoy working as part of a team and should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and a desire to progress.

We invest heavily in training across the team and are proud to have the latest equipment, and modern facilities in order to offer the most up-to-date advice and treatment for our clients and their pets.

Our sites have excellent facilities including well equipped consult rooms, state of the art theatres, isolation units, onsite lab, ultrasound, digital x-ray, all sites are cat friendly ISFM with designated cat-friendly appointments, laser therapy, and dedicated staff room.

About us

We are a very progressive practice based over 5 sites, Frome, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster, and Westbury. All sites are well equipped and supported to offer a high-quality service for all our clients and patients. In 2024 we will be acquiring a CT scanner at our hospital site in Frome providing 24-hour care.

Our team have decades of experience with three Lead Vets supporting our clinicians and Clinical Directors overseeing the running of the practices. Interests within the team include orthopaedics, dermatology, ECC, exotics, cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ultrasound imaging & laparoscopic key-hole solutions to surgery with several certificates held in Cardiology, Medicine, Surgery and ISFM Medicine in cats.

We are a very social team and enjoy nothing more than celebrating someone’s birthday which of course, includes cake! Every year, a few of us lucky enough to get tickets, make the 10-mile pilgrimage to the Glastonbury Festival.

We work very closely with our local communities from raising money with our clients to sponsorship for players. We have recently provided football kits for the Frome U9’s team and support local and national charities such as Cats Protection, Guide Dogs and Friends of Animals Wales.  

We have our own 'Garston green team' who have recently achieved the IIE Silver accreditation. They are always looking for new members to join their very proactive and sociable meetings, which often involved food.
