The team and practice

Cromwell Veterinary Group is centred around our RCVS-accredited hospital in Huntingdon and supported by five surrounding branch practices, giving our team access to an incredibly varied and rewarding caseload.

Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, advanced ultrasound including echocardiography, video endoscopy, bronchoscopy, laparoscopy, dental radiography and comprehensive multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, allowing us to diagnose and treat the vast majority of cases without referral.

One of Cromwell's greatest strengths is its people. Our large clinical team includes numerous certificate holders and Advanced Practitioners across multiple disciplines, creating an environment where collaboration is simply part of everyday practice. Clinical discussions happen naturally, knowledge is shared openly, and support is always close by, making this an outstanding place to continue developing your skills regardless of where you are in your career.

The working pattern is 1 day on ops 1 on hospital with 2 consulting days so this opportunity brings a great, balanced mix of duties and varied exposure.

1.5hrs fixed per day for admin and 26 appointment slots per day.

As part of your day, you'll work closely with experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses and our dedicated Client Care team, managing a varied mix of consultations and surgery while benefiting from the support of the wider hospital team with some flexibility required for cover at surrounding branches where necessary.

Located in the heart of Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon offers an excellent balance between town and country living, with Cambridge just a short drive away. Excellent road and rail connections make commuting straightforward from Peterborough, St Neots, Bedford and the surrounding areas, while the local countryside provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy life outside of work.

 

What we're looking for

We're looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys working in a collaborative, progressive environment and is motivated by delivering exceptional patient care.

You'll ideally have:

  • RCVS registration
  • Previous UK small animal practice experience (at least 2 years)
  • Confidence managing a varied first opinion caseload
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge
  • Enthusiasm for continual learning and professional development
  • An interest in pursuing further qualifications or certificates would be welcomed but is by no means essential

About us 

Cromwell Vets is a busy 24-hour first opinion small animal hospital with 5 branch surgeries and a state of the art rehabilitation centre. Our practice has been caring for pets for over 100 years and we pride ourselves on providing gold standard veterinary medicine. Our tier 3 hospital has excellent facilities and equipment and hosts our dedicated out of hours service. 

We have a fantastic, experienced and friendly clinical team with many certificate holders and we support and encourage CPD (including certificate study). We have all the equipment available to enable full work up of cases in house – digital radiography, ultrasound (including separate cardiac probe and doppler), video-endoscopy (gastroscope, bronchoscope and small rigid endoscopes), multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring, tonometry, etc. We have just opened a new wing at our hospital with a state-of-the-art operating theatres, treatment rooms and a calm and spacious cat ward.
