Park Vet Group were established over 100 years ago and are a multi-site, primary care, small animal, and farm animal practice spread across Leicestershire. With sites in Whetstone, Glenfield, Saffron Lane & Scraptoft Lane. All of our sites are self-sufficient and are fully equipped. We also have referral interests in, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, small animal surgery and a dedicated emergency hospital service, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year at the Glenfield hospital. Our Saffron & Whetstone sites are Silver International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) cat-friendly clinics.

 

Your role and responsibilities

At our Glenfield Tier 3 Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) Hospital practice we have all the usual kit including digital x-ray, ultrasound, a range of endoscopes, CT, association for the Study of Internal Fixation (ASIF) and Synthes kits, TPLO/TTA/Tightrope, arthroscopy & Biomedtrix THR kits, exotics ward and orthopaedics department.

Park Vet group really are a community-focused group of practices and we have a wonderful client base, some of whom have been visiting us for many years. Building a great rapport with our clients and caring for pets as if they were our own, is very important to us.

As an Associate at Park Vet Group, you will join a friendly and enthusiastic, large, team of vets (including certificate holders in Imaging, surgery and advanced practitioners in ophthalmology. We also have two surgeons studying towards medicine certificates.) and an experienced nursing team (including two surgical diploma holders). We have a wonderful front of house team too who support us daily. Here at Park Vet Group, we do offer some fantastic referrals, out of hours (OOH’s), and advanced services, but we equally champion our GP Vets and the fantastic service we can offer for routine and first opinion caseloads also.

As a team, we often discuss clinical cases and have monthly team meetings to share knowledge and communications. We often work closely with Willows, a local referral site, to run additional in house CPD events. We also enjoy socialising events outside of work too, when possible. It is fair to say that we all get on well as a team and enjoy our working days together. We have a real team spirit, and any new associates will be warmly welcomed.

Our variety of experience levels means that we have been able to offer a fantastic new graduate programme that offers great support. We are a training practice and work closely with local universities & training colleges too. We, therefore, have plenty of opportunity for mentoring if this is something you enjoy.

In your spare time, there are lots to enjoy locally. Park Vet Group is based in the wonderful city of Leicester which is the largest city in the East Midlands. Leicester is a modern city steeped in years of history and there are lots to do locally whether you enjoy the great outdoors/-countryside or prefer the Hustle and bustle of the city. East midlands airport is less than a one-hour drive away and you can visit lots of other cities in under two hours, including the capital.

As part of the Lead Veterinary Surgeon position, you will be working together with our current Lead Veterinary Surgeon to drive our practice services, work within the management team to encourage and promote Park Vet Group. You will also be responsible for client relations in terms of clinical aspects of cases, take part and lead site meetings and mentor our team on the new graduate schemes. A large percentage of your role will include clinical duties and case continuity is really important to us.

Being part of the wider group means you can often be kept in the loop regarding your cases, even if they have been referred to the hospital site. The successful candidate would preferably have management skills as line managing a team, vet diaries and a practice will be part of the daily position at Glenfield hospital.

The Lead Veterinary Surgeons are supported by the Lead Clinical Director, HR and Operation Manager and Practice Manager in their determination to drive the practice forward. This is a role that will be an exciting new challenge on your veterinary career path, and we are looking for candidates who are willing to take that leap of faith.

  • We can offer a flexible full-time or part-time rota, so please do speak to us about the ideal rota for you
  • Our full-time roles are usually four days per week
  • 1 in 4 Saturday mornings with 1:16 of these being a full day shift
  • Just 1 in 15 Sunday with flexibility to swap and change these were possible. (paid extra with a bonus)
  • No out of hours (OOH’s) or night work
