Award-winning Somerset veterinary practice Cave Veterinary Specialists has appointed Claire Lawrence as its new hospital director.

Claire, who has a background in human healthcare, joins the Linnaeus-owned practice in West Buckland, near Wellington, with a focus on growing its specialisms to support a significant increase in patient numbers.

Before joining Cave, Claire was general manager of Boots’ Exeter flagship store and pre-pandemic worked as an area manager for Boots across Devon, Somerset and Dorset. She has extensive experience in community, care home and hospital pharmacy as well as retail leadership.

She is keen to expand on the services offered at Cave, which see patients referred from across the South West and from as far afield as Swansea and Portsmouth.

Claire said: “I am working closely with our team to look at how we grow the specialisms that we offer at Cave, as we have seen a large increase in the number of patients coming into the practice and we are currently focused on recruitment to help us manage that growth.

“It is an absolute privilege to lead such a fantastic team who have faced into working through adversity over the last 18 months with exceptional professionalism and commitment.  Our focus on team wellbeing and work-life balance, ongoing training and development will be very much part of our strategic planning here at Cave.”

Away from work, Claire, who lives in Exmouth, enjoys time with her family as well as paddleboarding and kite surfing in her spare time.
