Swindon’s leading small animal hospital has grown its neurology department with the appointment of a new consultant.

Consultant in neurology and neurosurgery, Marcos Raposo Galván, has joined Eastcott Veterinary Referrals following the completion of a three-year ECVN residency programme.

The appointment will enable Eastcott to treat more patients amid growing demand for its neurology services.

Marcos said: “I’m pleased to have joined such a highly regarded and knowledgeable team at Eastcott, and to have the opportunity to continue my professional development alongside such skilled veterinary specialists.

“During my training, I developed a special interest in inflammatory central nervous system (CNS) disease and treatment of CNS neoplasm, like radiotherapy, and this is an area I will be specialising in within my new role.

“My goal is to continue improving my neurosurgery knowledge and develop more complex techniques, like hypophysectomy and other complex approaches, for the benefit of our patients.”

After graduating from the University of Leon, in northern Spain, in 2015, Marcos worked as a general practitioner for two years before completing a rotating internship at Rof Codina University Veterinary Hospital, located at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

This was followed by a one-year neurology internship at Montjuïc Hospital in Barcelona, which cemented Marcos’ interest in the specialism.

His qualifications also include an EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Oncology.

Niki Burton, hospital director at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, said: “As a team, we are thrilled to welcome Marcos to Eastcott as we continue to invest in highly skilled specialists.

“His skills are a valuable addition to our neurology department and will enhance the high level of care we are able to offer our neurology patients.”

Eastcott offers specialist expert care in cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, laparoscopy, neurology, diagnostic imaging, CT and MRI, anaesthesia and analgesia and emergency and critical care.
