- Details
A young vet has been given the ‘eye-deal’ opportunity to focus on a career in ophthalmology after joining a leading animal hospital in Dublin.
Niamh Fahy has joined Linnaeus-owned Primrose Hill Veterinary Hospital in Sallynoggin, County Dublin, which offers a dedicated ophthalmology referral service for cases from across Ireland.
Niamh, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine who is studying towards a PG Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology, said working at the state-of-the-art hospital was an exciting prospect.
She explained: “I graduated from Warsaw University of Life Sciences in 2019 with a general interest in ophthalmology and returned home to work in rural mixed practice where this interest became more prominent.
“I also attended multiple CPD events on the topic and, in 2021, moved to work at MyVet in Maynooth, where I had a greater ophthalmological caseload within a busy small animal practice.
“MyVet supported my interest and I began the ‘Improve International Veterinary Ophthalmology’ postgraduate certificate in September 2022.
“Shortly afterwards, I was excited to be offered the opportunity to transfer to work here at the ophthalmology referral clinic at Primrose Hill Veterinary Hospital.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity and, although I am still early in my ophthalmology career, I am very interested in congenital and traumatic ophthalmology disorders and breed-specific trends.”
Niamh will certainly have the chance to widen her experience and expertise at Primrose Hill.
The hospital’s highly skilled and qualified team offers delicate high-tech procedures such as cataract removal and lens implants helping restore sight to many blind animals.
