Southfields launches pioneering technology VetHub

One of the UK’s leading referral vet centres has launched a state-of-the-art online portal which is set to transform the treatment of seriously sick and injured animals.
Linnaeus referral centre, Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Essex, is rolling out its new custom-designed technology VetHub, which will allow information on cases to be shared more efficiently and accurately with colleagues and referring vets and centres across Europe.
With 24-hour access, VetHub will allow colleagues to turn an enquiry into a referral at the click of a button, without the need to re-enter all the case information, as well as help support the diagnosis of conditions and determining prompt treatment.
Allowing the Southfields team to work collaboratively with the referring vet and wider teams at each practice, VetHub also has a ‘practice groups’ function, which allows referring practices to have their own group, whereby any vets assigned to the practice can see all enquiries/referrals submitted by that practice, regardless of which user it was.
Southfields’ hospital director Daniel Hogan said: “The hub will allow us to share information about patients more efficiently and in far more detail than ever before, with the sole purpose of supporting veterinary colleagues with decisions about treatment.
“Referring vets can connect with us directly via an online portal, which then automatically logs, processes and records the discussion – updating all users with the progress of the enquiry.
“It’s designed to be used inside and outside the practice and allows a more structured enquiry with vets, who can use the hub on any computer or hand-held device to log in and discuss specific cases – even out of hours.
“Users can send any photos and videos of patients, images and documents directly to the hub from any device using their login.
“The great advantage is that everyone involved in the case can look at the same reports, documents and images at the same time and discuss them, together. This will certainly aid better communication about the case and, therefore, advance care of patients.
“VetHub is an evolving offering and this is only the start, we will have lots of new innovations to share as the system grows.”
Southfields provides specialist services in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and neuro-surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, radiation and soft tissue surgery.
