Rescue Cat's 'purrfect' Future After Procedures Performed In Nick Of Time
- Details
Nick the rescue cat is now ‘feline fine’ after vets at a popular Newmarket practice performed multiple urgent procedures on his teeth and eyes.
Little Nick was among six cats rescued from a hoarding situation by Fordham Boarding Cattery, which also carries out independent cat rescue work, while the challenging operations took place at Linnaeus-owned Lida Vets.
Thanks to Fordham Boarding Cattery and Lida Vets, Nick’s quality of life has dramatically improved to the extent that he is now enjoying living with new owners and can look forward to a safe and secure life.
Cristian Istodor, veterinary surgeon at Lida Vets, led the surgeries and was assisted by fellow veterinary surgeon Monisha Kowshik.
He said: “Nick’s eyes were closed because of chronic discharge and it was clear he would need an operation on his eyelids, known as entropion surgery, to improve his quality of life.
“We also had to remove all of his teeth over two operations and, while this may sound severe, it actually gives the patient a new lease of life by relieving a lot of pain.”
Keren Goff, who owns and runs Fordham Boarding Cattery with her husband Trevor, said: “Cristian has operated on several of our rescue cats and, on the day of the surgeries, the care provided was excellent.
“He is a very proficient vet and skilled surgeon who also understands the challenges faced whilst caring for rescue cats who are not particularly handleable.
“Nick has now left us for his new home after his recovery. He is very lucky to be given a new start with one of our friends.
“His quality of life is now excellent and a credit to all the hard work involved in getting him to this point.”
Cristian added: “It was challenging surgery due to having multiple procedures at once, while it is also difficult with bilateral entropion to ensure the eyes are symmetrical after the operation.
“However, it’s all worthwhile and it’s great to know that Nick has found a new home thanks to Fordham Boarding Cattery.”
