A Surrey vet practice is celebrating after receiving national recognition for its environmental work and drive to cut its carbon footprint.
Maven Veterinary Care in North Cheam has been awarded a bronze accreditation by Investors in the Environment (iiE), a nationwide initiative which encourages firms to introduce cleaner, more sustainable and environmentally friendly ways of working.
Linnaeus-owned Maven has introduced a raft of measures to reduce its environmental impact including achieving strong reductions across resource usage and waste generation, notably a 13 per cent decrease in electricity usage.
The practice also achieved outstanding in data recording for bronze level with the level and frequency of data recorded, done monthly.
Maven practice manger Nicola Kerkhoff said: “We are thrilled to have gained our bronze accreditation from the iiE and have been working hard for the past year to achieve this.
“It’s been a great team effort at our practice, while the support from key associates at Linnaeus has also been instrumental in helping us to achieve our goals.”
Since aiming for iiE bronze and beginning its sustainability journey, Maven team engagement has increased, with better adherence to waste procedures also seen.
Meanwhile, the practice has also undertaken impactful projects, surpassing the requirement for one project at bronze level, and covering multiple project areas.
The iiE report highlighted the success of these environmental and social projects, stating that the number and scope earned a score of outstanding in this area.
Nicola added: “We are now working towards silver level and very keen to strike green, the highest level the iiE awards.
“Our green team is very engaged and is already thinking of our next initiatives, including a bee garden and ways to further reduce our waste by focusing on paper and re-usable items along with reducing our electricity and gas use further.”
Ellie West, environmental sustainability lead at Linnaeus, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by Maven Veterinary Care and I’m particularly pleased it was noticed for its enthusiasm and dedication, alongside the team scoring so highly for its sustainability projects.”
