Education:
- Graduate Development Programme (GDP):
- 12 core educational days including an intensive pre-start training camp
- Focus on fundamental primary care clinical and professional skills - Early Careers Programme (ECP):
- Up to 5 days flexible CPD of your own choice, plus 6 core educational days on more advanced topics
- Flexibility to attend CPD of your own choice - Graduate specific practical training days – including ultrasound and surgery courses
- Additional CPD opportunities outside of the GDP – conference attendance, external CPD, practice visits
- Access to an extensive online resource library with 170+ hours of on-demand content

Education:

- Focus on primary care skill development – common primary care case presentations, surgical skills, dentistry, anaesthesia, imaging, internal medicine, dermatology and ophthalmology
- Non-clinical skills including veterinary business training, time management, communication skills, managing difficult conversations and skills to thrive in practice

Our Graduate Development Programme in 2024 will begin in September 2024, you must be available to start then do complete essential CDP.
About Us
We are a 21 FTE small animal practice based across the Somerset/Wiltshire border with 3 fully equipped multi vet branches in Frome, Warminster and Trowbridge and 2 consulting only branches in Westbury and Melksham. Our Frome branch is a RCVS PSS Tier 3 hospital practice, the rest of the practice is tier 2. We are fortunate enough to do our own OOH so all vets get involved in emergency work and new grads exposure to the full panoply of cases is complete from an early stage. We believe this enables them to develop into the best clinicians. Our OOH is based at the Frome hospital branch and is manned 24 hours a day by a dedicated team including excellent, experienced night nurses. Vets work 4 days per week. All vets contribute to the OOH rota and full timers currently do about 1 weeknight on call every 3 weeks, 1 weekend on call every 5.5, so the rota is not onerous. All out of hours staff are supported by a 2nd on call member of the team and we match up less experienced with more experienced colleagues.
The 3 main sites are fully equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, in-house lab facilities and full dental suites. We are a nurse training practice and employ about 46 nursing staff in total.
We strongly encourage further qualifications in all our staff: we have vet certificate holders in medicine, surgery and cardiology with other colleagues working towards qualifications in surgery and diagnostic imaging. Nursing further qualifications in medicine, anaesthesia and exotics are also held by the team and prove incredibly useful in offering the high standard we aspire to. Our receptionists are all holders of the bronze BVRA award and some are working on the silver award.
We are close to extremely good referrals centres including Eastcott in Swindon, Cave near Taunton and Langford Vets. Eastcott and Cave are Linnaeus referral practices opening up a world of local CPD and potential ‘seeing practice’ opportunities.
Our region is a wonderful part of the country to live in with the vibrant cities of Bath, Bristol and Salisbury close by and the Mendip Hills and Salisbury Plain for those that love the great outdoors. A little further afield the stunning Dorset Coast is about an hour away and London accessible in 1.5 hours by train. Frome is regularly voted one of the best towns in the UK with a mass of independent shops on its medieval streets.
