Luna's Over The Moon After Beating Debilitating Salmonella Infection

A Labrador puppy unable to walk due to a salmonella infection is back on all paws thanks to intense treatment at a Cambridgeshire animal hospital.
Thirteen-week-old Luna from Bury St Edmunds was rushed to the emergency and critical care department at Linnaeus-owned DWR Veterinary Specialists in Six Mile Bottom as she was lethargic, had a high temperature and swollen knee joints in both of her back legs.
She was in a very poorly condition and detailed examinations diagnosed marked inflammation in her knee joints, with her joint fluid infected with salmonella bacteria. Luna became infected after being in contact with raw food.
Alice le Gal, a specialist in emergency and critical care at DWR, said: “Luna was instantly started on antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain relief and responded well to her treatment.
“She is a very lucky puppy and being referred quickly by her local vet to DWR, with all the different services on one site, meant she could be diagnosed, treated and back home to her loving family in no time at all.”
Luna’s recovery was made possible thanks to a multidisciplinary approach at DWR which involved emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, internal medicine, laboratory and diagnostic imaging teams.
Luna’s owner Tanya Puk said: “The course of treatment went smoothly and the team at DWR was excellent.
“It was obvious that Luna was well cared for whilst in their care and I think she became very popular among the staff. They kept us well informed on the whole journey to keep our minds at ease.
“We now have a very happy and healthy dog and thank the team at DWR for the amazing care they took of Luna.”
